About Fit2cook4Families

HOW IT BEGAN
Food And Truth™ is a non-profit organization that created Fit2cook4Kids™, an empowering summer camp and after school program intended for replication as a solution to the catastrophic epidemic of childhood obesity. We’ve tested the Fit2cook4kids model over a 3-year period on more than 100 children for over 750 contact hours, and have found that after only 40 hours (that’s one week of summer camp) the self esteem of the children can be documented as measurably increased. We also heard from delighted parents who consistently asked for programs they too could participate in. Their requests resulted in Fit2cook4Families.

OUR VISION
We envision Fit2cook4Families as an early evening program that brings families together for two hours of hands-on learning with an experienced chef who is passionate about health and nutrition. While the menu will be diverse, the focus will be on plant protein. Students arrive after school to assist the chef in preparing fruit and herb infused water and healthy snacks. Parents arrive after 5:00 PM to enjoy the healthy before-dinner food offerings their children prepared with the chef to acquaint them with an array of fruits, vegetables, and healthy snacks. At 5:30 the chef introduces the meal plan and discusses the recipes. By 5:45 families are gathered around their stations to prepare the meal they will enjoy in one hour. During the meal, the chef or guest lecturer will present on topics ranging from food to fitness and social skills.

WHY FIT2COOK4FAMILIES

Nationwide, 17% of adolescents aged 2 to 19 are obese, a figure that’s tripled since 1980, and estimated to cost 147 billion annually. A recent Gallup poll finds that 86 percent of full-time American workers are overweight, costing an estimated $153 billion in lost productivity each year. The good news is that obesity is completely preventable and reversible.

WHAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT FIT2COOK4FAMILIES

It’s the empowering combination of cooking infused with fitness information and social skills training by talented professionals who are passionately committed to solving the obesity epidemic by empowering kids and adults with information that makes them competent in the kitchen, knowledgeable about fitness and able to confidently share their acquired knowledge with others as ambassadors of health and wellness.

THE GOAL
Our goal is to build an easily replicated Fit2cook4Families model program in partnership with schools, community organizations, churches, etc. We envision a Fit2cook4Families in every city and town in the nation with families sitting down to a properly set table enjoying a healthy meal together while sharing information about how to stay fit, eat healthy and communicate well.
